From miniature compositions to expansive music theatre, his works are situated in different contexts and often combine different bodies of sound. He works closely with his ‘favourite band’ Steamboat Switzerland, which has been combining jazz, rock, metal and improvisation with contemporary music since its beginnings.
Joint projects range from miniature compositions, which the composer wrote for the three musicians, to extensive music theatre projects in which the band forms an acoustic and visual motor or contrast to other sound bodies. Wertmüller also regularly utilises the musicians of the trio as soloists. Michael Wertmüller and the three Steamboat Switzerland musicians Marino Pliakas (electric bass), Dominik Blum (Hammond organ) and Lucas Niggli (drums) talk about what they have in common and their joint projects.
